Smaller than the size and weight of a ¼ piece of paper, with a fluttering top speed of only two miles per hour, the Monarch Butterfly travels all the way from Canada to Mexico in just two months. How does it do it? By fluttering up into the fast-moving winds high above the green grass, beautiful flowers, and swaying trees. This wonder of God’s creation soars as high as 11,000 feet; and can travel 265 miles in a single day.
Butterflies remind us of what the “Wind of God” – the Holy Spirit – can do in our lives.
Butterflies will soar on Pentecost Sunday, June 4th. We invite you to come celebrate the gift of the Spirit at 10:30 a.m., and receive a chilled Monarch Butterfly to release at the end of worship. Warmed by the heat in your hands, the beautiful butterfly will spring to life and flutter away in the breeze or land nearby to snack for a moment on spring clover.
